patriotmemory
A new partner site at MaXit, Hardware Secrets are here to make life a little less complicated. Their review of Patriot memory, a favourite at MaXit, puts some 2 GB Dual Channel modules on the bench.

"Patriot was established in 2000 as a PDP Systems spin-off - PDP Systems is one of the oldest memory manufacturers in the world and very active in the OEM business - is getting a lot of attention in the enthusiast market with the excellent cost/benefit ratio of their products. We've got their PDC2G3500LLK memory kit, which comes with two 216.5 MHz/DDR433 1 GB modules with 2-3-2-5 timings. The main feature of these modules is their very low latency for such a high capacity product. Let's see how this kit performs on our tests."

NOT a Movie Mini Review: X-Men: The Last Stand

But... but... but...  but I thought its release date was May 29th! I thought it wasn't coming out until Monday!

No spoilers! Don't tell me anything! Waaaah! (Runs screaming from the room with hands over ears)

Seriously. I have been very, very much looking forward to this one since seeing X-2 for the second time. Or third. I forget. I turn into a weepy little girl everytime I remember that last scene aboard the jet, after the dam breaks. (Note to fellow writers: Grief is a huge opportunity for developing/establishing characters. Go rent the DVD and watch that scene again. Pay special attention to Cyclops and Wolverine.) There are, like, a million other wonderful things going on. It was just such a damn good movie. I walked out of the theater wanting X-3 right now.

And I could have it right now. It's out. Now. Only I have plans to see it with my husband next week. Dammit.

I caught a few review headlines running along the top edges of some local papers lying around. You read 'em. I don't wanna know yet.   Expect a review soon.

Does the OEM AMD Dual Core Processor Cooler Really Need Upgrading?

ImageTweaknews answers the question on everybodys lips, Does the OEM AMD Dual Core Processor Cooler Really Need Upgrading?

"I think the results of the testing really speak for themselves. AMD has gone the extra mile to provide the consumer with a quality HSF that is compact, quiet and cools damn well. It's refreshing to find a bundled cooler that can stand up to some modest overclocking, and do it pretty quietly."

Rumor Has It Mini Film Review

I was on a train when I saw this movie. I didn't expect to like it - I have learned, via an unfortunate experience with Good Night And Good Luck, not to watch movies I expect to like on trains. Everyone comes to the lounge car to chat because everyone back in coach is trying to sleep and there's not much social space in the sleeper cars. And then you can't hear the movie at all.

But, surprise-surprise, I actually could hear, and the movie I expected to be a forgettable "chick-flick" turned out to be surprisingly good. Who knew?
The movie is fiction, but it's based on a real rumor. Our heroine (Jennifer Aniston) goes home for her sister's wedding and discovers that not only is her family history more sordid than she ever supposed, but that her late mother, her spectacularly not-late grandmother (Shirley MacLaine), and the man they both had affairs with (Kevin Costner) were in fact the real-life inspiration for The Graduate.

Quick thoughts:

Aniston's OK, quite attractive, does that head-tilt quizzical expression effectively; Costner is every bit of pure sex in a suit and tie; but the real star of the film, in my opinion, was MacLaine. Pure comic genius. Bask in it and make noises of hilarity.

If you tend to cry at movies, bring a hankie. This one'll get you too. It got me, anyway. Good thing I'm totally over that "embarrassed by crying in public" thing.

There is a lot more going on in the details of this movie than you might expect. Not a single opportunity of stage direction, body language, or timing was wasted. On the more subtle side, there's the way Aniston carries her purse in that last scene before the credits roll. In the more in-your-face category, there's the slapstick placement of the characters in the dressing room when the inevitable Simon & Garfunkel quote comes up.

And hey! Jennifer Aniston naked! I understand some of y'all find that worth the price of admission.

That's about all you need to know, really. Go ye forth, queue it up in NetFlix, and enjoy.

Silent Hill Mini Film Review

shmpfinal

It's a video game four times over, it's a comic book, and now it's a movie. You probably already knew that; it's been out a few weeks already. It's been getting reviews and everything. Many of those reviews are bad. Having finally seen this movie last night, I can only conclude that this is because the reviewers were expecting something different.

Cooler Master iGreen 430watt Computer Power Supply Review

coolermaster-igreen

Tweaknews are at it again with a review of the Cooler Master iGreen 430watt power supply.

"Overall, Cooler Master has a solid product here. While it is not suitable for high-end extreme gaming systems full of every peripheral imaginable, the efficiency and relative silence makes it ideal for a moderately built DAW or HTPC. There are higher wattage iGreen power supplies available in 500 and 600 watts."
