ImageZalman continues to innovate in the field of high performance, low noise cooling. The VF-900Cu provided excellent cooling performance and was able to do so with absolutely no noise. Even at full speed, the cooler was quieter than the stock unit it replaced, and it kept the X800 GTO almost 10 degrees Celsius cooler!

turbo-cool-1kw-psu

Who would have thought that 1000 watts would be used in a personal computer system! Well, the fact is, most still don't require this kind of serious power. However, for the serious computer user and especially the hardcore gamer, it most definitely is. With dual NVIDIA SLI and ATI CrossFire setups becoming common place, a high-quality power supply with lots of juice is a necessity. Also, most serious gamers will push their systems to the absolute limit…

ECS C19-A SLI Motherboard Review @ Virtual-Hideout

ImageToday on the test bench I have our 3rd ECS motherboard: the ECS C19-A SLI Pentium 4 (skt 775) Motherboard. What differs this board from our previous ECS boards is that the C19-A SLI is the first board from ECS to formally support NVIDIA SLI in an Intel Platform. Unfortunately it is only implemented as dual 8x pipes or a single 16x pipe for the PCI-e. But again: Budget.

Bit Torrent pushing its way into acceptance?

ImageBitTorrent is a great little program, useful for just about any type of file transfer you would need. Several companies use torrent download concepts to help with their download speeds, patchers, or just diffusing bandwidth usage among its users. But some companies stay convinced its the devil for aiding piracy. Warner Bros has left this train of thought, however.

As if Their Support Wasn't Bad Enough AOL Laying off 1300

ImageThis always makes others in technical support cringe. AOL has cut 1,300 employees, primarily from its call centers. Reasons are attributed to "savvy customers", among other reasons.
First question - people still use AOL? I know I haven't since I have multiple issues when I needed a temporary connection, as well as support that didn't, well, support. It's hard to decide exactly why the cuts came. Was it really from just more intelligent users?

Let's take a quick look at statistics. AOL's peak was in September 2002, with 26.7 million uses. Today? 18.6 million customers. That's still a significant amount, and it's hard to say if the scaling of their call centers to projected call volume is going to work out well for them.

"... But the steps we take today will help ensure that AOL meets the needs of our members, meets our strategic corporate goals, and sustains the growth of our business." says Nicholas Graham, an AOL spokesman.

Here's hoping one of their steps isn't transferring support to overseas help. That always goes over well, heh...

While the game is enjoyable enough on its own, I've been playing around with UI modifications of one sort or another to simply up my enjoyment of the game, as well as clear some of the healer related clutter all over my screen. Sometimes its nice to see the screen, not just health bars, you know?
