Default Problems overclocking P4 3.4EE - 04-12-2006, 07:40 PM

Im having problems overclocking my cpu. My gpu is fine at the minute, everytime i UP the fsb, even by 10mhz,it just wont post after the re-boot. Ive upped the v-ram to like 2.7v which is pretty high, and loosened the timings to cas 2.5, may consider cas 3. But it wont budge. I have coolermaster vortex dream 92mm cooler.pure copper baby. Enermax 560watt psu 35amp 12volt rail..so its got plenty of cooling and plenty of go-go juice. The board is apparently the best in the intel 875B skt478 range for overclocking, but to no avail..i havent budged a mhz:(

any clues and ideas, please let me know

also which is the best graphics card cooler, bar watercooling??

thanks guys

Firstly, graphics cooling, the Zalman VF900Cu, its a beast of a copper solution with heatpipes, and by far the most effective cooler ive ever seen, possibly even coming close to outdoing water, its quiet too. Tested on a 7800GT under full load, the 900cu returned a truely impressive load temp of 41c, now thats impressive.

as for your OC woes, what RAM do you have? if youonly have cheap RAM that will be why you cant OC, cheap RAM is made to specification, nothing more, nothing less. but if yougive us as much detail about your components as possible, in particular, RAM settings and make, mainboard and CPU stepping im sure we can help you eek something out of it

Ahh that would seem to be your problem, geil ultra PC3200 was designed for AMD, not intel boards. The memory youactuall wanted from the geil range was the geil ultra x pc3200. but all is not lost as your current memory is actually rated for up to 2.95v, but few motherboards go in .5 increments, plus when you get to windows its never 2.95v, more 2.9v, so set it to a flat 3v

From there adjust timings to 2.5-3-3-8 and see if you can get an OC with the adjust timings and voltage. If not try swapping the modules positions. If you still dont get any luck upgrade your BIOS to the latest available and try repeating the above steps.

cool, i was actually thinking of getting rid of this ram, as it hasnt really impressed me on the OC side of things.I used to have 4x512 corsair xms4000, but stupildy swapped to these as OCuK had a hot deal on them. I found some corsair xmx3200LL on ebuyer for 130[2gb set]. Would you reccomend i went for them, or just stick with this ram to begin with.

Its not like an intel to be a prude with OCing, normally there sluts!!

grr....ill give ur settings a go first. Will the ram go pop at 3.0v?? oh well if it does, guess i rma it and request other stuff

cheers

For now id work with the RAM you have, and generally I wouldnt advise corsair in any shape or form, constantly and consistently they have shown to not only have inferior products to competitors but also have terrible customer support.

Mushkin or Geil, for Intel rigs you cant go far wrong with either, especially their PC4400. G-Skill are great too, but their modules are somewhat volatile changing their mind at a whim.
