Cool Quake 4 modified config.cfg V1.0 - 04-21-2006, 02:23 PM

My first revision Quake 4 Config.cfg file, hope it works as great as it does on all the test systems I've tried it on for you guys

Notes:

- Tweaked for 1280*1024 resolution
- Tweaked AA performance, on suitably powerful graphics may allow for up to 6x or better.
- Tweaked armour value from 0.66667 to 1.1 in singleplayer, tweaked to 1.0 in multiplayer.
- Console command key changed to "`" (the key before "1")
- Tweaked gamma to 1.6, just to make things more realistic, meaning even in daylight it will no longer look like its late dusk
- Tweaked brightness to 1.5
- Other minor tweaks

General Tips:

Make sure your running the latest drivers.
Set AA and AF via your drivers control settings, this tweak relies on it.
To measure performance improvements (if your the type that likes to see that) you can enable the Q4 console and use its built-in FPS measurment.


Installation:

Dowload the .zip file and backup your current config.cfg file, just in case. The file is located at *drive letter designation*:\Quake 4\q4base.

Once backed up simply extract the .zip to the same location, overwriting the current config.cfg.

Thats it, enjoy the performance gains! Let me know what you guys think of it 8)

Disclaimer

I do NOT guarantee everybody will see huge improvements, some may only see a small increase, and indeed some may see no increase or even negative results, hower I have tested the modded cfg file with various systems and configurations, but its impossible to check the cfg with every configuration in existence.

Oh yes, let me know if armour rating is a bit high and gamma \ brightness, i think i need to tone gamma to maybe 1.5, brightness to 1.4 and SP armour to 1.0, tried balancing things a little better for the harder difficulty settings.

But you guys let me know what you think.

ta ranzid im still working on the cfg file, theres some more tweaks i want to implement, you feel like being the guniepig?

oops :o is anyone having problems with gun muzzle flashes? particularly rom guns like the railgun and hyperblaster? im not sure if i broke the code :o if i have i'll fix it.

V1.6 changes;

- Adjusted sounds
- Tweaked image quality
- Optimised loading times (watch thoughs loading bars fly baby!)

Notes:

Set AA & AF via driver settings.
Optimised for 256MB cards, should be fairly well optimised for 128MB cards as well.

indeed, fast....

but the first time you load q4 it seems slower.. its seems to hit a bottleneck on loading the menu's ... strange.

apart from that faster than a hot hedgehog of a hot hedge....on wheels

I'll have a look at the menus and see if I can speed that loading time up. I've noticed the same thing, it is odd how it takes the menues so long to load. I'll probably have a look at tweaking image quality again as well, I'm still not satisfied with it, I feel Q4 should look much better than it actually does, short of recoding the whole of the levels and replacing static and bump mapped areas with actual polygons I'm not sure how much more I can tweak it though.

V2.0 changes:

- Tweaked sounds (should fix a bug where on a rare occasion a odd sound would play out of nowhere)
- More Specular optimisations
- More graphical Tweaks
- Additional shadow optimisations
- Vertex buffer optimisations
- Many other tweaks


Did I manage to reduce the menu loading times ranzid?
