Reports have surfaced that Xfire, Inc. has been acquired by Viacom's MTV Networks unit. The report states that Xfire is "far and away the leading PC gaming communications and community platform, has outstanding management, and is a perfect fit with our growing digital businesses at MTV Networks," according to a statement from president/CEO Tom Freston.
Viacom officials hope that "the acquisition will help Xfire to maximize advertising revenue through aggressive marketing, greater market penetration and integration with other Viacom digital and cable properties." Viacom's stock on the NYSE rose 17 cents, to a total of $38.95, on the news.
