Old Git's PC Tip Of The Week

Turbo Charge Your PC

Here's some handy tips for increasing the performance of your PC with very little effort. Best yet it's free and simple way of making your PC run better.
THis is another easy and simple trick to make your computer faster, I believe it only works with Windows, and it works with any copy of windows.

Just follow these simple steps and your PC will be running like a finely tuned mustang This PC tip works best on Windows XP and Windows Vista.

Go to Start and click on it

Look for RUN in XP , then click it and type in then click on run - type in regedit. If you are using Vista just type Regedit into the live search bar in the start menu.

A menu will come up and you must look for
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE. Once you find it, click on it and expand it

Another menu will appear, then highlight SYSTEM and click it and expand it

Another menu will appear, then highlight current controls, then click it and expand it..

Another menu will appear, then then highlight control, click it and expand it

Then, another menu will appear and you must scroll down to Session management, click it and expand it,

Another menu will appear, then look for memory management, click on it and expand it.

Then, another menu will appear, look for Prefetch Parameters and click on it.

Then, you look at the menu towards the right, and look for Enable prefetcher, right click it with modify and set it to 5.

And that's it!

Now do the same but this time type in msconfig. Select the Services tab and check the Hide all Microsoft Services. Yuo should then be left with a list of services that you can safely disable that load at startup and run in the background of Windows. I recommend leaving you AntiVirus software enabled for protection.

When you have done that, click on the Startup tab an repeat the process turning off anything you don't want to run at startup. Stuff like Microsoft Office, Adobe, Messenger, NVIDIA help apps all eat system resources and slow your machine down. Again leave any Antivirus software enabled for security.

You can always turn them back on again by repeating this process should something not work as it should.

Combine these tricks for a faster running pc free of charge!

Exclamation EnablePrefetcher = 5 is a Myth - 05-18-2007, 10:58 PM

The EnablePrefetcher does not have a setting for 5 it simply does not exist. Setting it to 5 is a nonfunctional value and will cause Windows to use the Default of 3 which is already optimal. Please stop spreading myths:

You can find out how the Prefetch works here:
