Default Windows hibernate does not work - 07-04-2008, 10:46 AM

My OS is Windows XP Home, SP2. I am trying to get my computer to hibernate rather than turn off and then wait the 5 minutes or so for boot the next day.

Hibernate fails every time. I Shift-standby from Start-Turn off Computer , I get the Windows screen telling me it is about to hibernate, the screen goes black, my hard drives spin down and then up again, and I am back to my desktop again, without hibernating.

I had success once or twice with the same rig, but now I get an error popup from the taskbar after attempting to hibernate, along the lines "insufficient resources for API".
What does this actually mean and how can I provide more resources?

I have plenty of spare space on my boot drive (11 GB free), and my SATA 5.0 data drives even more. I have 4 GB memory, and Intel Dual Core 6700 processor.

Check your BIOS settings. Only thing I can think of is a setting in your BIOS is disabled for hibernation. Could also be a bug with your BIOS not allowing the system to hibernate, you could try updating your BIOS as well.
