Samsung Unveils Haptic 2 Mobile Phone

Samsung has recently introduced the Haptic 2 mobile phone. The second generation phone, launched in South Korea, has a large touch-screen display that also provides haptic feedback, information transmitted via the sense of touch, when using certain functions on the device.

The phone offers 3.2-inch screen, mobile banking as well as an internal DMB tuner to pick up over-the-air digital TV in Korea. It also brings a much sharper five-megapixel camera with flash and image stabilization as well as built-in storage of either 4GB or 16GB depending on the model.

The users can also personalize the vibrate mode and have access to more than three times the number of widgets on the home screen for quick access to weather and other info.

It will cost between 700,000 won and 800,000 won (US$700 to $800) in South Korea. There's no word from Samsung on when it might be available elsewhere.

A Mobile Phone With Built-In Intelligent Car Key!

Mobile Phone With Built-In Intelligent Car Key

Nissan Motor, NTT DOCOMO and Sharp have jointly developed a mobile phone able to function as an intelligent key for cars. The device will incorporate Nissan's Intelligent Key system, already a standard feature in various Nissan vehicles.

Nissan's Intelligent Key system, installed in more than 950,000 units of various Nissan models since 2002, employs two-way wireless communications technology to automatically unlock/lock the car door and start/stop the engine. Nissan and Sharp has now integrated these electronic intelligent-key, wireless communications and electromagnetic technologies into the new handset.

Nissan, DOCOMO and Sharp will demonstrate this mobile phone with built-in Intelligent Key in their respective exhibits at CEATEC Japan 2008, which begins September 30. The three firms will continue to develop the product with an aim for commercial distribution in early fiscal year 2009.

iPhone App Lets Users Send Photos To Other Phones

iPhone

Apple iPhone users have have a new way to send photos. They can now use Flutter, a free application that allows users to take a photo and send it to another cell phone.

Until now, an iPhone user could not send a picture to another cell-phone number, although the user could e-mail pictures to anyone.

JuiceCaster, a social-broadcasting service for cell phones, called Flutter the next best thing to multimedia messages, or MMS.

Flutter allows individuals to take a photo, address it to cell-phone numbers listed in contacts, and add messages.

The person on the receiving end gets a text message with a link to JuiceCaster. JuiceCaster will host the photo. A feature included in the service is the ability to use the iPhone 3G's GPS to show recipients your location. The recipient gets an option to see the sender's location.

"Being in the business of multimedia and other products with JuiceCaster, we thought why not use the underlying platform we use to send pictures," said Amir Hosseinpour, Juice Wireless senior vice president of product strategy, speaking from London.

The service is free, at least for now. The plan, however, is to put ads on Flutter. The company said they will be on the client side, and the sender will be the one viewing the ads, not the recipient.

AT&T To Link iPhone To U-Verse Video, Internet

iPhone

U.S. phone company AT&T Inc plans to eventually link Apple Inc's (AAPL.O) iPhone to its high-speed Internet and video service called U-verse, and introduce new features like using the phone as a remote control.

At an event on Monday to showcase some recently developed technologies that are not yet being marketed, AT&T emphasized that in the future, consumers should be able to use their phones, computer and television in more interesting ways.

"We're looking at the whole landscape, of what people use, and what's out there in the home," said AT&T Chief Technology Officer John Donovan, adding that some of the services may be launched by the end of the year.

AT&T is currently the sole U.S. carrier for the iPhone -an advantage over other mobile providers like Verizon Wireless, owned by Verizon Communications Inc (VZ.N) and Vodafone Group Plc (VOD.L), as well as over cable television providers.

For example, consumers will be able to listen to their voice mails on their screens, and download shows from their digital video recorders onto their iPhones.

They also will be able to use their iPhones to navigate channels like a normal remote control, and for entertainment purposes like virtually hurling tomatoes at the TV screen using iPhone applications.
