Today LG officially confirmed their upcoming LG Prada phone. Featuring a full touch-control design, the new handset is the result from the collaboration between the Korean manufacturer and the Prada design team.
The unique thing about it is the large touchcreen menu interface which eliminates the need for a conventional keypad whatsoever. We cannot help but think about the newly announced iPhone by Apple which though would be much larger and would run under the OS X. The LG KE850 Prada phone on the other hand would be only 12 mm run with a Macromedia Flash user interface.
The Prada phone features a large 3" LCD touchscreen display with yet unknown resolution and would also have a 2 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach optics and a microSD memory card slot.
The most interesting thing about the display itself is that it's made using the capacitive touchscreen technology. What that means is that the screen uses electroconductivity to sense your touch - much like the touchpad on the popular LG Chocolate. This technology is made to be used with fingers only, so the use of a stylus is out of the question whatsoever.
Glowing icons on the face of the phone disappear when not in use to reveal a pure, un-adulterated black exterior. The phone hosts an array of additional multimedia functions, including an MP3 player and a music multitasking function for messaging. It also boasts an external memory slot, allowing the user to increase memory capacity for images, music and film clips.
The KE850 will be available for 600 EUR in the UK, France, Germany and Italy by late February, 2007, followed by countries in Asia such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore from late March, 2007. The Korean version of the phone is scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2007.

Vodafone unveiled three new phones as part of their McLaren Lineup to mark their partnership with the Formula 1 Team. Two of the phones are from Sharp and the other one is a Samsung slider. All the three phones feature the silver and red color scheme that resembles their F1 car.
The Sharp GX29, the low end phone in this line up, is a tri-band GSM/GPRS clamshell handset (no EDGE). It does have a large 240x320 (QVGA) display, an external 72x12 display, Bluetooth and a VGA camera, but only 2.1mb of memory with no memory card slot.
The next one is a Sharp 770SH, another clamshell with tri-band GSM, GPRS and 3G support, still no EDGE, a QVGA display, 20mb memory with a microSD slot, a 1.3 megapixel camera and Bluetooth.
Details on the Samsung SGH-Z520M slider are scarce, but it is expected to have a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus, a QVGA screen, Bluetooth, microSD slot and EDGE–similar to the D900 slider.

Yesterday, at Macworld 2007 Apple announced the long-awaited iPhone - a widescreen iPod, a mobile phone, a mobile Internet terminal, a digital camera and a portable PIM organizer all-in-one. Some of the most exciting features of the iPhone include the OS X it runs on and touchscreen control with multi-finger gestures with no need for a stylus whatsoever.
Equipped with 4 or 8GB of integrated memory, the Apple iPhone has got more than the needed storage space to bring your photos, videos and music to life straight into your palm. It's much like iPod in that respect and features a large 3.5" touchscreen TFT display with a resolution of 320x480 pixels. But unlike an iPod it can take pictures with the integrated 2 megapixel camera. It even has an accellerometer which allows it to tell whether you are holding the device in landscape or portrait mode so that it can turn the display orientation correspondingly. And all that mobile virtuosity comes at the meager thickness of 11.6 mm.

At CES 2007 Las Vegas Motorola joined the gang and presented the successor of the popular RIZR Z3 - the MOTORIZR Z6. The new slider is part of the new MOTOMUSIC platform and comes along with the updated EDGE version of the Motorola MING A1200 model. It seems that Motorola would keep their marketing strategy of producing slightly updated version to their existing handsets instead of making entirely new mobiles from scratch. The prospects of a new group of music-oriented devices sounds exciting since this is the current trend on the market and Motorola didn't have such mobiles up until now.
The Motorola RIZR Z6 will run on a new Linux-Java-based user interface and promises enhanced music experience featuring connectivity with Windows Media Player 11 and supporting Janus DRM. It will have the same design as its predecessor RIZR Z3 with almost the same size but it will weigh 10 g less. The new RIZR Z6 will have an improved display - this time with QVGA resolution, but it will retain the 2 megapixel camera of the predecessor. We hope that there would be some improvement in the camera quality department too since the RIZR Z3 deserved some criticism along that line of functionality. The MOTORIZR Z6 is expected to be available in the first half of 2007.

Nokia, yesterday, announced two upgrades and two new phones at the CES 2007, being held in Las Vegas.
The N93 received a much needed upgrade. Being called the N93i, this new phone is both thinner and shorter than the N93. The keypad on this new phone is inspired from the RAZR line and the mirror finish on the front is stunningly beautiful. The front houses a concealed 128x36 OLED display too. Nokia has partnered with Vox, a free blogging site, to provide users with the ability to blog directly from their N-Series phones. The phone will be releasing this quarter and sets you back 600 Euros. The other features remain pretty much the same as of its predecessor.
The N76 is a new addition to the mid-range N7x series. The N76 reminds you of the Moto RAZR at first glance and this phone definitely brings the missing style factor Nokia smartphones, measuring only 13.7mm thick. The specs are not at par with the N93i but they are not bad either. The phone features a 2MP camera, a QVGA display, 3.5mm audio jack for all those music loving folks out there. The phone will be out in Q1, 2007 and costs around 400 Euros.

The phone has a 2 megapixel camera and some sort of a fake leather grip on the rear which gives the phone a rich look. The phone is also expected to be ultra slim at just 1.4cm. Other features of the phone include a large, high-resolution 352x416 display, 70mb of internal memory, microSD/TransFlash card slot, running SymbianOS Series 60 UI. The phone is a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone with support for 3G/WCDMA/UMTS.

izenMobile maybe an unknown brand for many, but this San Diego based converged device company is showing some great prospect for the future. The company is introducing its 2007 phones at CES: the KRMA and the KSMT (pronounced karma and kismet).
The KRMA is a combination of a smartphone and pocket PC. It has a normal candy bar form factor with only a numeric keypad, but it also has a 2.2-inch touch screen that can be used with a stylus. The KSMT comes with a slide out QWERTY keyboard that contains a total of 39 keys. It also has the touch screen interface.
Both the devices come with a 2 megapixel camera, microSD/TransFlash expansion slot, GPS, Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC OS, quad-band GSM/GPRS with EDGE support, as well as Bluetooth, WiFi and a mini-USB socket. izenMobile will be bundling some of its services such as izenLounge, izenGuru and izenUniverse with their handsets, but the most interesting part is the 25 GB online storage account and a free copy of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 that the buying business will get with the phones!

Mobiado, who made their name making wooden cell phones, have released a new model named the Luminoso. As the name suggests the design of the phone is based heavily on light. The Luminoso is made of aluminum which is annodized with a ceramic coating to make it scratch proof. Interestingly enough the screen is not sapphire crystal but is made scratch proof through the use of the polymer DiamondShield. The buttons on the other hand are sapphire crystal and they are illuminated to give the phone its unique look.
The phone uses the Nokia Series 40 platform and features a 2 megapixel camera and has micro SD memory card slot. The Luminoso is in essence just a recased Nokia, but Mobiado has no affiliation to Nokia. This phone may see success in the regular phone market but definitely not in the luxury phone market along side the likes of Vertu, GoldVish and Gresso. For more information visit the Mobiado website.
