The Blackberry Pearl is a succesful attempt to combine the traditional amenities a of blackberry with the style and ease of use typical cell phone users will love. It measures just 4.2" x 1.97" x .57" and weighs 3.1 ounces, making it slightly thinner then the razr.It is a quad-band GSM/GPRS (in U.S. available exclusively through T-Mobile) and EDGE-enabled mobile application.
The built-in 64MB flash memory is now expandable with a MicroSD card, allowing ample media player storage. Supported types are MP3/AAC/AAC+/eACC+ and Mpeg-4 and of course it has a 1.3 megapixel camera. Internet browsing is relatively slow however especially on T-Mobile's EDGE network which drives data at 80kbps. Other interesting features include a variable luminoscity screen which adjusts to the amount of light in the room, a touch sensitive trackball, the ability to support up to ten email accounts and downloadable/viewable, email attachements. The pearl doesn't sport a QWERTY keyboard but the blackberry people tell us the SURETYPE features make short work of that. The Pearl is already available in the U.S. and in October it will make its mark in Europe, Latin America and the rest of the civilized world.
