| Datel to make Wii region-free?! |
Good news for all those Wii owners worrying that the Wii is not region-free. Rumor has it that Datel (the console accessory and enhancement company which developed the FreeLoader disc for the GameCube) could well be hard at work on creating software to remove or bypass the Wii’s built-in region coding feature.
"All we can say at present is watch this space," commented Datel through its CodeJunkies website. "We’re working on it, and if it’s possible, you’ll be the first to know." There are concerns over the legalities of this though because modifying Wii's firmware is illegal in the US (according to the DMCA) and for that matter in most parts of the world except in Australia.
