| PS3 to Allow Games to Install to Shorten Loading Times |
You have to wonder how long the loading times will be on the PS3 if Sony plans to let games install parts of themselves onto your hard drive in order to reduce the time you spend waiting on the game, though it's definitely understandable, given Blu-ray discs can hold a lot of data, and at some point or another in the game you'll have to load that data into memory. Two games, Ridge Racer 7 and Genji: Days of the Blade, will utilize this ability. Ridge Racer 7 has the option of taking up to 5GB of disk space for game files, while Genji will take up to 4GB of storage. These one-time transfers will take only a few minutes, but they'll save you a large percentage of your loading times throughout gameplay. Sony has been hinting for a while now that they too are getting tired of optical discs, and that the PlayStation 4 may not have a disc drive at all. Instead, it may just have the ability to download entire games using your Internet connection. This way, you don't ever have to worry about finding the right disc or switching discs in your console, and if there are ever any bugs found patching the game is a piece of cake. Large amounts of built-in storage are required, but that's pretty easy anyway, especially if you don't need the room for an optical drive. Hopefully there will be more developments on this in the near future. Original article by DailyTech.
