Xbox Live Video Marketplace goes Live

"Its the first birthday of the 360 today, and Microsoft has taken its new Xbox Live Video Marketplace live. For those of you who don't know what this is or who were wondering what the addition of a Video Marketplace button on the Media blade with the recent November update was for, well, now you know.

Xbox Live Video Marketplace will provide gamers with easy access to hundreds of full-length TV shows for download to own and movies for download to rent from CBS, MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures, Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Warner Bros.

This feature is available to gamers with a free Xbox Live Silver subscription or a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription and a broadband connection. It is currently available only to gamers in the US. Pricing is also announced and it varies based on format, media type, and whether its a new release."

High-definition TV shows will be 240 Microsoft Points ($3.00) per episode and standard-definition TV shows will be 160 Microsoft Points ($3.00) per episode. New release movies in high definition will be 480 Microsoft Points ($6.00), and standard-definition new release movies will be 320 Microsoft Points ($4.00) each. Classic feature films in high definition will be 360 Microsoft Points ($4.50), and standard definition will be 240 Microsoft Points ($3.00). After purchasing a high definition TV show or movie, gamers can download the standard definition version at no additional charge.

The current word on selection is 48 movies and 50 TV shows available for download, and that'll sure be growing. You can either buy or rent content from the market place which you can watch only on the 360.

There is a Family Settings feature, which allows players' to choose the video content that can be played on their family's 360. Gamers can set controls based on movie, TV and video ratings, or they can entirely block explicit and unrated video content for themselves or their children.
