The 802.11n wireless standard sure seems to be attracting its fair
share of supporters considering it's not been ratified yet. The latest
to jump onto the bandwagon is Intel which has begun shipping its
'Kedron' chipset. The 'Kedron' is an 802.11n-compatible wireless
networking module and is a key component of the next generation of
Centrino, 'Santa Rosa'.
The official name of the Kedron is
Wireless Wi-Fi Link 4965AGN and marks an end to the old ProWireless
3945ABG Chipset. It offers more than five times the data throughput
(270 MB as compared to 54 MB of 802.11G) and is generally expected to
be more power efficient. The new adapter operates on both the 2.4GHz and
5GHz.
In order for the transition to be made easier Intel has indicated that it is working with leading network vendors such as Asus, Belkin, Buffalo, D-Link and Netgear to ensure maximum performance and compatibility. Anyone who is part of the program and will pass Intel's certification criteria will receive a "Connect with Centrino" logo.
"Integrating wireless-N technology into notebook computers based on Centrino Duo with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor delivers the speed, coverage and multi-tasking abilities needed for consumers to enjoy their home networking and digital entertainment," said Intel direct of wireless marketing Dave Hofer.
"Additionally, access points that are identified by our new 'Connect with Centrino' logo assure consumers that they are purchasing a compatible wireless-N system", said Hofer.

Compro is a less-known brand, but their new VideoMate U2700 is pretty impressive, so I decided to share it with you all. The U2700 like other hybrid TV tuners can grab free-to-air digital terrestrial signals while it also can tune to old analog channels.
Whats special about this device is its TV's ability to stream up to 4 DVB-T channels and to playback a recorded file simultaneously.
Think of this as playing back 5 HD streams. This requires at least a 3.0Ghz CPU. Another handy feature is Transport Stream support, meaning you can hit the record button and the software takes care of separating different programs in the background.
In addition, VideoMate U2700 comes richly packaged with ComproDVD 2, Ulead PhotoExplorer 8.5 SE and Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4 SE for watching DVD, managing multimedia files and authoring DVD. With the compact size design, remote control and powerful features, VideoMate U2700 USB 2.0 hybrid TV box is undoubtedly your best mobile TV and video choice.
More features include: digital radio reception, closed-caption and Windows Vista Certification. No word yet on the price and availability.

Samsung, today, launched the cellular camera - VLUU i70. Featuring a 7-Megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom, built-in image stabilization, and a 3-inch LCD (used to view videos and read incoming texts), and HSDPA 3G connectivity.
But this time - it isn’t a phone. This is a full-featured digital camera.
With its integrated modem, photos taken with the i70 can be uploaded directly to the web wirelessly. In addition, the ISO at 1600 means that many situations normally needed a flash no longer do.
Since it uses HSDPA, it needs a SIM card, and it features the capability to receive text messages. Really. Media playback ain't left behind either. The i70 can handle MP3s and also plays MPEG-4 videos - not only those recorded by it but also those transferred from a PC.
The i70 is currently launched only in South Korea and no more details of its availability elsewhere are know at the moment.

Jason Reindrop, the marketing director for the Zune, told Reuters that Microsoft was realistic about the challenge it faced in trying to crack into the digital music player market, dominated by Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod.
"You couldn't get a more entrenched competitor," he said at the annual music industry Midem Net conference in France. "But we feel really good about the first steps that we've taken." He also added that Microsoft was not yet ready to officially announce when it would launch the service in Europe but it could possibly be out before the end of the year.
He said the Zune had a 10.2 percent market share in the U.S. in the 30 gigabyte category, according to the latest data, and that it was still in line to sell over a million units by June 30, the end of its current fiscal year. "We're not simply trying to play catch up with Apple," he said. "We are very realistic, we have what is essentially a three-year plan to firmly and solidly get on the radar.
At the same conference, Zune marketing chief, Chris Stephenson, pointed to the release of a truly WiFi-enabled device, a release that would be an answer to the recently-launched Sansa Connect from SanDisk at CES.

Hitachi takes the guess work out of having to choose a camcorder format by combining the long recording times of hard disk drives and the easy-to-share attributes of DVDs. Consumers can record up to 23 hours of home videos and then dub a highlight reel to a DVD disk with a simple push of a button, bypassing the PC completely.
Hitachi America, Ltd. today unveiled a new generation of UltraVision camcorders that include the first two hybrid products capable of recording video directly to either formats. The DZH500A model, which was selected as a CES Innovations 2007 honoree in the Portable Electronics: Audio/Video category and records onto a wide array of DVD formats, including DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM and DVD+RW, features a 30GB hard drive, 30X optical zoom, SD memory card slot, and will be available in April for about $800. The DZHS300A, available today at retailers nationwide for about $600, features an 8GB hard drive, 25X optical zoom and SD memory card slot.
Hitachi Hybrid Camcorders lets consumers shoot and capture many hours of home movie memories directly to the built-in hard drive without changing discs or tapes or running out of space and then transfer to DVD right in the camcorder with the push of a button.
"The Hitachi Hybrid DVD+HDD camcorders provide customers with the ultimate convenience of a single, affordable device capable of supporting the two most popular video formats on the market today," said Jeff Fochtman, product manager for Hitachi America, Ltd., Ubiquitous Platform Systems Division. "Customers who value ease of use in a high-technology product are very excited about the hybrid camcorder's ability to dub multiple DVDs straight from the camcorder's hard drive."
