Picking up where Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner left off, German company ESG has developed a rigid wing system to allow special forces paratroopers to glide at high speeds for great distances away from their drop-off point before opening their parachutes. That's right: Batwings! They're six feet wide, they carry all your stuff, and they're darn near invisible to radar. They're silent and deadly. And well before special forces got ahold of them, they debuted in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Unfortunately, your fantasies of Angelina Jolie swooping down from the sky to carry you away are slightly off base. While the stunt did happen for real, without CGI, safety devices, or special effects, the wearers of the flying suit in the movie were in fact the two men who invented the device. Jolie herself did not wear one.
