Intel Launches New WiMax Chipset

Intel has announced the WiMax Connection 2250, the first system-on-chip capable of supporting both fixed and mobile WiMax networks.  It also supports all WiMax frequencies worldwide with its tri-band radio.  Intel has also announced that the chip will be integrated into Motorola's CPEi 200 WiMax equipment series.

Currently the chip only supports 802.16-2004 WiMax, which is the specification for fixed networks, but Intel has said that a firmware upgrade will allow the device to support 802.16e-2005 mobile networks as well.
