Siemens VDO Traffic Sign Recognition

Is driving starting to get too hard with all that email you have to check on the road?  Or maybe all those cars around you don't understand how important it is to call your friend right away.  Whatever the case, Siemens' VDO Traffic Sign Recognition System should keep you from getting tickets because you weren't paying attention--that way, you can save your money for when you run that red light.

The system uses a camera to scan the road ahead of you, while a computer sorts through the images and looks for patterns that indicate a traffic sign.  If it detects a speed limit sign, a display on your windshield will alert you of the new speed, along with your current speed.  You also have the option of configuring your system to automatically adjust your cruise control speed when the speed of the road changes.

The VDO system may be available sometime in 2008.  Don't expect it to be cheap, but isn't that true with anything that goes in a car?
