Sony Announces Blu-ray Recorders with Built-In Hard Drives

Sony's pushing the Blu-ray standard as much as they can, and now they've announced two new set-top Blu-ray recorders. The BDZ-V7 and BDZ-V9 sport an internal hard drive in addition to the Blu-ray burner, so you can record shows (or other inputs) to the hard drive and then later transferring to a disc.

The difference between the two models is hard drive size: the BDZ-V7 has a 250GB hard drive, and the BDZ-V9 holds 500GB of video. Both can record two programs at the same time, and both support full 1080p video, but neither of them will work with dual-layer BD-R discs. Maybe next time...

Japan will see these two drives on December 8, at prices of about $2,120 and $2,550 for the V7 and V9 models, respectively.
