Mini-Box.com today launched the VoomPC-2T family of low power, high performance car PCs. Based on the small form factor Mini-ITX platform and with an integrated battery management unit, the VoomPC family is ideally suited for navigation, productivity and entertainment with superior audio and video performance. The unit is equipped with an intelligent power supply eliminates battery drain and prevents damage from unwanted power surges, a key requirement for successful car PC designs. The VoomPC-2 is built on a VIA X86 1.5Ghz C7 processor, and the motherboard supports VGA and S-Video output, USB 2.0, FireWire, Ethernet, PCMCIA Type I and II, a CardBus interface for hooking up to GPS or Wi-Fi systems, and a 5.1 audio support. The system also offers an M1-ATX intelligent power supply which manages battery use so the PC automatically drops certain functions if the car's battery drops beneath 11.2 volts. The VoomPC-2's total power requirements range from 15 to 35 watts and the system also handles temperature extremes, from as low as -40° to 55°C (-40° to 131°F). The VoomPC-2 is now shipping, with the barebones version starting at just $399 and the VoomPC-2 CarPC enclosure costs an additional $199.95.
