Slatted for beta release this week, WMP
11, coupled with MTV's Urge music service, is set to make an impact
on the way you listen to music.
So what's to look forward to in this
beta? And what does WMP 11 have to offer that's different from
everything else out there? While we'll all see for sure this
Wednesday, here's a bit of a preview:
First off, the look is vastly different
than previous versions. This design overhaul can be attributed to
influences of Apple's clean design and user friendly set ups. After
all, while Windows Media Player 10 wasn't horrible by any means, it
definitely isn't a preferred
software for many, simply because its cluttered and non intuitive.
Searching through your music has been
streamlined, and Microsoft has added features to allow you to search
by album cover, or via 'wordwheel' search methods. As far as getting
a hold of new music, the Urge service, boosting over 2 million
tracks, is deeply integrated into the software. Hopefully this is
not intrusively done, as the last thing I"d want to see is Urge
adds staring at me when I'm trying to do something else.
Another big feature is well done
support for a variety of hardware transfers, as well as the ability
to use other content providers. Here's hoping this software lives up to expectations, as there are a ton of features that I hope to get a chance to have some first hand fun with!
