| ATI X1950 Pro Provides an Alternative to the GeForce 7900GS |

ATI is now offering a new mid-range graphics card, the Radeon X1950 Pro. While it's definitely not the X1950XTX, it claims to offer a 10-35% increase in performance when compared to its NVIDIA counterpart, the GeForce 7900GS (which is its counterpart in terms of pricing). The X1950 Pro is the first graphics card to implement native CrossFire technology. What this means is that you don't need a special "CrossFire Edition" card, as long as the motherboard works with a CrossFire configuration. AMD is really playing catch-up with NVIDIA's SLI, but so far they've been doing a good job of keeping up. Compared to the X1950XTX, the X1950 Pro uses GDDR3 memory, unlike the brand new GDDR4 offered exclusively on the X1950XTX (definitely a great way to sell the XTX, though). The RV570, the GPU on the X1950 Pro, has a slightly lower clock speed than that of the RV580 (the GPU on the X1950XTX), at 575MHz rather than 625MHz. It has 36 pipelines, compared with the XTX's 48, and 256MB of memory is clocked at 1380MHz, compared with the XTX's 512MB clocked at 2000MHz. As with a lot of higher-level cards these days, the X1950 Pro is HDCP-compliant, so you can watch Blu-ray or HD-DVD movies on your computer. Read the original article here.
