The Lowdown on Warez

The Lowdown on Warez

"Today we have a very interesting subject to consider: The Piracy of Online Content that keeps drawing a lot of attention and heat around the world. This problem has existed since the advent of the Internet and in the last few years it has grown even worse. Today we will analyze the reasons for the increasing amount of piracy among software, games and even music and movies. There must be a significant reason why so many people are downloading software, games, music and movies illegally instead of buying it. I believe that people will not steal without good reason.

Back in June we started a survey about warez, and we started to research the reasons behind it that motivate people to commit the crime. As I said, there must be reasons why there are so many popular warez sites and demand for it. It took many weeks to investigate the issue and to understand the reasons behind it -- and maybe to find out and to suggest a solution to solve this growing problem. So, what causes people to download software illegally? I will tell you why…"

Mid-Range Graphics Card Warfare – AMD vs. nVidia (Q4 2006)

"Today we have with us a total of four mid-range graphics cards - two from AMD and two from nVidia. While all cards are mid-range, it’s clear that they sit at different end of the scales – let’s call them low-end mid-range and high-end mid-range. The Radeon X1650XT and GeForce 7600GT sits at the lower end of the mid-range scale and at the other end we have the GeForce 7900GS and the Radeon X1950PRO. While offering high-end type performance, the 7900GS and X1950PRO still in belong at the mid-range level due to their pricing."

Altec Lansing FX5051 5.1 Speaker System Review

“There are so many great speaker systems for your PC, from 2.1, 5.1, even 7.1 systems, but to use them to their full potential you need a top of the line sound card. This is the dilemma a lot of people face when going out to get a new set of speakers. Well Altec Lansing has solved your problems with the FX5051 5.1 Speaker System. The system is able to deliver 5.1 surround sound without a 6-channel sound card, without any sound card at all! The FX5051 uses USB to bring surround sound to any computer without a sound card.”

Setting up HDMI on your HDTV - nVidia vs. AMD

"When you connect a computer to your TV using a digital signal like HDMI, the process isn’t as seamless as connecting a dedicated piece of AV hardware, like a TV tuner or DVD player. This is because AV equipment makes automatic allowances for overscan whereas graphics cards don’t. To fix this, there’s a certain amount of manual tweaking required in the driver.

I wanted to compare AMD and nVidia’s driver capabilities to get your system up and connected properly to an HDTV. The two cards used were an MSI NX7600GT Diamond Plus and Sapphire X1600 Pro HDMI. Both cards have native support for HDMI."

Budget Dream Machine

“Intel's E6300 is the best CPU for the price. Overclocked, it outperforms AMD's current offerings and equals that of a $1000.00 processor. Long has it been since we've seen such an amazing overclocker, and the E6300 will certainly go down in history. It's the perfect match for our AB9-Pro Dream Machine on a Budget. We hope this will serve as a guide for those looking to get the most for their money, while at the same time having a computer that is nothing short of spectacular in terms of performance.”

Cooler Master Eclipse Cooler

“Over all, Cooler Master has not let us down with its latest product release. The Eclipse cooler has all the makings of a great cooler with the ability to impress in any case window. I am still calling out to Cooler Master to correct its centering issues with these coolers as this is a very crucial step in assuring proper cooling of the customer's CPU. The shape of the cooler has a very interesting appeal to it, but the functionality with surrounding components presents a problem on some motherboards…”

"Nvidia finally released a successful Intel chipset for the enthusiasts, which offers unparalleled performance and a huge overclocking potential. The extreme gamers can now enjoy full 2x16 SLI operation while operating over 1800MHz FSB (quad pumped). This is quite an improvement over the old 590SLI, which often tops out around 1400MHz."

Taiwan Exclusive – GeCube Dual GPU Radeon X1650XT Tested

"This week we were given an exclusive opportunity to visit the GeCube office here in Taipei and test out their unreleased, highly anticipated and upcoming Gemini 2 dual GPU Radeon X1650XT graphic card. In the CPU game, everyone is talking about Quad but in the VGA game, Dual cards are on the mind at the moment. According to the product managers and marketing folks from GeCube who we talked with throughout our visit, the product is almost finished and will be ready and for sale early next year – that is, very early January, as long as everything goes to plan. That’s good news as GeCube as well as Gigabyte and ASUS (and the former XGI and probably many others behind closed doors) have tried producing dual GPU graphics cards in the past but they didn’t really turn out as planned."
