Microsoft Windows Vista: How much memory is enough?

"Do you need as much memory when you're running office applications as you do when you're gaming? How much memory do you need in Vista to game comfortably, and spreadsheet smoothly? Usually a hardware upgrade isn't required for a new operating system. Yet if you are planing to upgrade Microsoft Windows XP to Microsoft Windows Vista, it's almost impossible to avoid a PC overhaul. If the PC doesn't have enough RAM to satisfy Vista's intense thirst, you'll be the slowest thing on two wheels."

Xclio Propeller Black Computer Case W/ 360mm Side Fan Review @ Tweaknews.net

"I had high hopes for the Propeller, considering how much I liked XClio's 188A chassis, but it wasn't to be. When considering a budget case, there are some shortcomings one can ignore. The Spartan interior is roomy, but doesn't have many amenities or innovative features. I know how to use a screwdriver; I can deal with that. Especially considering the Propellers low cost. On close examination, it lacks the kind of fit and finish I like to see in a chassis, but for $65 and a 360mm fan, I can live with it."

Photoshop 101: Convert a Color Photo to Black & White @ HardwareLogic

When taking pictures with a digital camera, by default the picture will be in color. Most point and shoot cameras along with a few DSLR offer a black and white mode. This is great if youÙre looking for low contrast and flat pictures. To get the most range from an image, take the picture in color and convert it to black and white with Photoshop or other imaging programs.

Halo ActionClix Miniatures: Hands-on Preview

If you've been gaming for a long while, then perhaps you remember the time when what now are popular video games were played exclusively with paper and dice. Dungeons and Dragons, BattleTech, Lord of the Rings, and many other gaming franchises were originally games that took many hours to play. Now, one hour of checking the rulebook, rolling dice, calculating hits, and logging damage are simulated by the computer in just a few seconds.

In an unusual twist turn, a popular video game franchise has been brought to the tabletop, in the form of WizKids' Halo ActionClix. Since Halo ActionClix aims to bring the frenzy of PvP to the tabletop, and thus the rules are simplified to make for quick gameplay (by tabletop standards).

Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 Case Review

"Cosmos, the word conjures thoughts of distant galaxies, black holes, super novas and billions and billion of stars and planets all accompanied by the comforting drone of Carl Sagan's monotone voice. The Cosmos we're talking about today is a bit more down to earth, but impressive in its own right. The Cosmos 1000 is the latest in Cooler Master's Premium case line and we were fortunate enough to receive one of the first samples. This is Cooler Master's new bad boy for 2007 and has already managed to make it into Maximum PC's Dream Machine build. After spending the weekend with one, I can't fault their choice."

Indianapolis 500 Legends Hands-On Preview

Destineer is a game publisher that has focused a lot on Nintendo platforms, from the Gameboy Advance to the DS and now the Wii. They have several upcoming games to be released this November, right before the Christmas rush. I was able to speak with Jeremy Zoss, who is the Communications Manager at Destineer, who demonstrated all of their companys game lineup.

Their biggest game was Indianapolis 500 Legends for the Nintendo Wii. This game covers the Indy history from 1961 to 1971, so racing buffs can recreate famous moments in history. There are 33 official Indy cars in the race, organized by era. Each races difficulty increases with each year, as more advanced cars are mixed in, and the AI becomes more aggressive.

Ultra X-Pro 800W Aluminum PSU ULT33185 @ Benchmark Reviews

Ultra has been in the business of producing good looking products which are known to perform well, and still not cost a fortune.  We recently reviewed the Ultra ULT33186 Chilltec TEC CPU Cooler, which offered a unique blend of technologies into one product.  Equally as unique is the Ultra X-Pro 800W Aluminum PSU ULT33185, which matches a very attractive power supply chassis with high-performance electronics previously found in mission critical components.  Offering 800 watts of power gives the X-Pro a very wide range of applications: from pedestal servers to hardcore gaming systems.  Benchmark Reviews has seen plenty of power supplies that look good, and they often promise more than they deliver.  Ultra's X-Pro 800W will need to prove that function still comes before fashion.
