ABIT AB9 QuadGT P965 Motherboard Takes On ASUS P5B

ASUS have currently enjoyed the number one spot for sometime now as king of the 965 chipset arena. Their ASUS P5B Deluxe is a stonking board and received top honours in our labs.

Now under the Universal abit brand name, the bad ass attitude of ABIT is back with a vengeance. Tweaktown tested three motherboards under the Universal abit brand - A8N 32X, AB9 Pro and the IN9 32X SLI motherboards and found out that they all performed quite well with the exception of the latter which failed to impressed with very poor overclocking results.

Today they have a new motherboard based on Intel’s P965 chipset, the same that was used in the AB9 Pro board, but with a few updates to the design and layout.

It is aimed at taking on ASUS and Gigabyte’s Crossfire dual graphics based Intel P965 motherboard and by the looks of things, the AB9 QuadGT is able to produce a motherboard for your Core 2 processor which packs some punch.

ASUS P5B Premium Vista Edition Motherboard Update

ASUS is doing the same thing as NVIDIA and ATI are doing. They come out with a wide range of products, all having almost the same name. A quick look at a local e-retailer gave me a list of 9 different P5B motherboards in addition to all the other P5-something (P5W, P5N and so on) motherboards ASUS sells.

The motherboard that is under scrutiny today is the new P5B PremiumVista Edition motherboard. As the name implies this is a motherboard that is aimed for everyone who already has or plan to build a computer with Vista.

Gigabyte N680SLI-DQ6 Exclusive Preview

n680sli_dq6_box_re

Gigabyte seems to be ready to challenge Asus in the next-gen motherboard war. We just got a word from Gigabyte about their new killer product, the N680SLI-DQ6 motherboard. As the name hints, this motherboard features the latest N680SLI chipset from Nvidia. This top notch motherboard will be competing with the Asus Striker series motherboards.

Although, there is no official statement at the moment about this product from Gigabyte, we managed to gather a little info about this board...

First photos of AMD 4x4 Motherboard

4x4mobo

With Intel's first quad-core desktop processor already available on the market, AMD is really under pressure to come up with their own quad-core solution.  As their 4x4 platform reaches completion, the first 4x4 motherboard has been spotted.

The motherboard above is really packed with features.  The two processor slots are what qualify it as a 4x4 motherboard, along with four PCI-Express x16 graphics ports.  4 DDR2 slots are present, with two slots dedicated to each processor (which means you'll need four sticks if you want dual-channel memory).  12 SATA slots seems a bit excessive to me, but hey, it'll probably cost you and arm and a leg for this board, so it may as well come with everything.

Asus Launch The Striker Extreme 680i Motherboard

asus-680i-mb

Hot the heels of their 8800 GTX graphics cards, Asus announce their latest socket 775 motherboard for Intel processors.

Incorporating NVIDIA's new 680i chipset and supporting Intel's Quad-Core Processor, the Striker Extreme is also 1,333MHz FSB ready. Designed by and for gamers and overclockers, the ASUS Striker Exteme brings innovative overclocking features to the already monstrously powerful 680i and Core 2 Duo platform. Features include

LCD Poster - gives you a digital readout of exactly what's gone wrong with that latest tweak; no more searching through hundreds of codes trying to find out what went wrong.

EL I/O and Onboard LED - lights up your backplate and main board for easy access and easy DIY fixes.

Onboard switches - no more hassle to turn your system on or off, reset the board or clear the CMOS - all can now be done with a simple button press.

SupremeFX - 24 bit/192kHz sampling on all channels give you crystal clear powerful sounds whether through headphones or a full 7.1 surround sound setup. The bundled array microphone can also cancel out external noise like computer fans and air conditioning system for superior quality audio streams.

Of course, no amount of extras can surpass the ASUS world renowned R&D team and their stamp is clearly seen with own unique take on a Multi Core, 680i based motherboard, completely fanless cooling for the whole motherboard - teamed up with 2 ASUS EN8800GTX's, the Stryker Extreme would be well on it's way to staking a claim for one of the fastest bases for a consumer system yet released. A system we hope to bring you very soon!!!

First Official Nvidia 680 SLI Motherboard Pic

nforce680isli

Anandtech revealed the first pics of eVGA's new motherboard based on Nvidia's 680i chipset. No specification details as yet due to the non disclosure agreements in place but the board will have three pci express slots for a potential triple graphics treat. Passive cooling as standard for the chipset with an optional addon fan for watercooling setups is expected.

The motherboard is actually made in the Foxconn plant to eVGA specifications. Performance is rumoured to be mega with 500+ FSB but it will be another week or so till official figures emerge.

More Details Revealed on NVIDIA nForce 600 Series Chipsets

nForce 680i motherboard

NVIDIA has a new chipset line with availability scheduled for the first part of November.  The nForce 650i Ultra, 650i SLI, and 680i SLI replace the 500 series of chipsets on Intel motherboards (mostly due to issues with a 1066MHz front-side bus).

The 650i chipsets are effectively the same, except that the SLI version has two PCI-Express slots for using two video cards, with each slot having 8 lanes.  Both chipsets support 4 SATA2 ports, gigabit networking, and high-definition audio.  The 680i SLI offers three PCI-Express slots, probably for some three-GPU physics solutions NVIDIA hasn't announced yet.  Two of the slots get 16 lanes apiece in SLI mode, and the third gets 8.  Compared with the 650i, it also has DDR2-1200 support, official support for a 1333MHz bus, the DualNet feature present on 500 series boards, and a couple of extra SATA2 ports.

NVIDIA nForce 570 and 590 Replaced

NVIDIA has announced that Intel editions of their nForce 570 SLI and 590 SLI are being replaced.  The new equivalents, named 650i SLI and 680i SLI, are slightly updated chipsets to better accomodate the Core 2 line of CPUs.

The nForce 650i SLI SPP is paired with an nForce 430 SLI MCP to supply a total of 29 PCI-Express lanes, which allows one x16 lane or two x8 lanes for graphics.  The nForce 680i SLI is paired with an nForce 590 SLI MCP to provide 48 PCI-Express lanes, enough to give you two x16 graphics slots.  The new chips are codenamed C55 and are basically C19 chips with updated memory controllers.

Does anyone else think a jump in model number from 590 to 680 should give you a little more than support for a new processor?

Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 Motherboard Review

Gigabyte GA-965P DQ6 Motherboard Review
The GA-965P-DQ6 ranks at the top of Gigabyte's offerings to Core 2 Duo users seeking to push their chips to the limit. Like it's little brother, the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 which we reviewed earlier, this board also features an all solid capacitor design. Based on the 965P chipset, the DQ6 doesn't support crossfire, however there's little doubt that it should overclock to high levels. Thoroughly impressed by the entry level DS3 which  achieved an impressive 450 MHz FSB, we had high expectations for this board. Read on to see just how the Gigabyte GA-965P DQ6 faired when we pushed it to its limit.
