Kingston unveiled the Kingston DataTraveler Mini with Migo at CES 2007 earlier this month. As the latest addition to Kingston 's family of miniature USB Flash drives, the DataTraveler Mini with Migo uses the Migo Software, Inc. technology to give consumers the ability to seamlessly transform any PC into their personalized workspace, making it one of the most convenient, customizable multifunction USB drives on the market.
Measuring 0.70 x 1.42 x 0.40 inches, the new DataTraveler Mini is a colorful alternative to traditional USB drives. Available in three colors, varying by capacity, the DataTraveler Mini with Migo is available in red for the 512 MB, light blue for the 1 GB and light purple for the 2 GB version. A sliding retractable USB connector, or 'capless' design, eliminates the possibility of losing the cover during transport.

Migo allows you to use your own Microsoft Outlook® Express/Mozilla Thunderbird email contents, Microsoft Internet Explorer/Mozilla Firefox settings, favorites, cookies and history, plus your files, folders and icons. Take DataTraveler Mini — Migo Edition anywhere you go — your field office, home office, Internet café, or school computer lab — virtually anywhere you have access to a PC with the applications you use. When you return to your PC, Migo synchronizes your data to keep you current.
The 2 GB capacity will be available mid-February. All Kingston USB drives are backed by a five-year warranty.
The prices for the 512 MB and 1 GB version are $13 and $15 respectively. The price for the 2 GB version will be announced shortly.

Seagate today unveiled a new version of its Savvio hard drive that it says is the world's fastest hard drive. Though it spins at the same 15,000rpm speed as the fastest desktop hard drives, the Savvio 15K is even quicker to access information due to its smaller, 2.5-inch frame: data can be found in as little as 2.9ms, Seagate claims.
Though not immediately intended for notebooks, the updated Savvio's similar characteristics also make it more power-efficent than its larger counterparts and consumes only 5.8 watts at idle versus the 8.4 or more seen on the desktop. HP says it has already begun shipping ProLiant servers with the drive in 36GB or 73GB models.
The 15K Savvio disc drive offers a number of advantages over 15K 3.5-inch drives including: size (70% smaller), weight (1.12 lbs less), power (30% lower), drive seek time (12% faster than any other drive) and reliability (1.6 million hour MTBF). These advantages translate into system level benefits never before seen in a 15K-rpm drive.

Blu-ray and HD-DVD have both been around for a while now, and neither one has made a significant gain in the market over the other (despite what Sony has to say about it). So what do we do? Some say it's time to compromise. Warner Brothers is the first company to introduce a hybrid disc that will play on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD players. It calls this new disc the "Total Hi-Def," or THD, disc.
The THD disc contains a Blu-ray movie on one side of the disc and an HD-DVD movie on the other. It's 1.2mm thick, just like a standard DVD, Blu-ray, or HD-DVD disc, and supports two layers on either side, which gives you a total of 80GB of storage space (50GB on the Blu-ray side and 30GB on the HD-DVD side). Warner intends to share this technology with other companies, it says, so we should be seeing plenty of these discs available. If you ask me, though, a hybrid player would be more useful than a hybrid disc.

Toshiba, one of the leading supporters of the HD-DVD format, today unveiled its latest HD DVD writer the SD-H903A. The SD-H903A is a full-featured drive, which allows you to store nearly 30 GB of data on dual-layer discs, which can accommodate up to eight hours of HD DVD movie content, up to five full-length standard DVD films, up to 7,500 MP3 songs or up to 30,000 high-quality images.
Apart from the HD DVD support, SD-H903A provides read and write support for legacy formats and is therefore backwards compatible. Another interesting point to note is that unlike conventional writers which are available on the PATA interface, the SD-H903A features a Serial ATA (SATA) interface thereby eliminating the need for legacy cables.
This new drive will be showcased at the upcoming CES conference to be held in Las Vegas. The drive will be available commercially from February 2007 onwards.
