The new 300GB MHX2300BT 2.5 inch Serial ATA notebook hard disk drive utilises perpendicular magnetic recording and will be available in late February 2007. A 250GB model will also be released. Fujitsu is targeting users running audio/video applications such as gaming, video editing, audio recording and digital video recorders. Key specifications of the 2.5” PMR hard disk drives include best-in-class read/write power consumption at 1.6W, whisper-quiet operation, and high shock tolerance. With these benefits, the new Fujitsu mobile series is well-suited for the audio/video computing market. Fujitsu has also announced sales goals of 1.5 million units during fiscal 2007 for both the 300GB and 250GB models combined (Fujitsu’s fiscal year ends March 2008). Full Press ReleaseTokyo, December 12, 2006 — Fujitsu Limited today announced the development of the world's first 2.5" hard disk drive that offers storage capacity of 300 gigabytes (GB) with a Serial ATA(1) interface. The new hard disk drive "MHX2300BT" will be available in late February 2007. Featuring the highest storage capacity in the 2.5" class, it will be available on a global basis for use primarily in multifunctional mobile PCs and digital TVs.Fujitsu began selling hard disk drives with perpendicular magnetic recording in October of this year. It has been an industrial leader in introducing high-capacity 2.5" hard disk drives, launching products with 160 GB in September 2005 and 200 GB in May 2006 that garnered high praise from many customers. MHX2300BT marks the commercial introduction of second generation of perpendicular magnetic recording technology. The new hard disk drive will be offered in 300 GB, the highest storage capacity available in 2.5" hard disk drives, and 250 GB versions, offering the capacity needed to store terrestrial broadcasting digital TV videos. This level of capacity makes these hard disk drives suitable alternatives to the 3.5"drives typically found in desktop PCs, and their small size makes them especially well-suited to flat-panel TVs with built-in recorders. The new hard disk drives are the RoHS compliant(2) and have read/write power consumption requirements of just 1.6 W, among the lowest in the world, making them environmentally-friendly products. They are also exceptionally quiet, emitting just 2.1 bels(3) of noise at idle. Sales Targets 1.5 million units during fiscal 2007 for MHX2300BT and MHX2250BT combined (fiscal year ending March 2008). Notes 1 Serial ATA: Also known as "SATA," this is a serialized version of the popular ATA interface used to connect storage hardware to computers. There is a 1:1 signal-line connection between the host and each attached drive, transmitting one bit at a time. This permits high speed with good tolerance for noise and interference. The standard also permits future increases in speed and transfer rate. 2 RoHS compliant: "Restriction on the use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electric equipment." An EU directive published February 13, 2003. Member countries must enact legal restrictions regarding the use of hazardous materials in electrical and electronic equipment, to lessen risks to health and the environment. As a consequence, beginning July 1, 2006, electronics products destined for the EU are subject to regulations on the presence of lead, hexavalent chromium, mercury, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethyl (PBDE) 3 Bel: A unit for indicating noise levels. 1 bel is equivalent to 10 decibels.
