Thermaltake is well known in the overcloker community for its top class cooling solutions and power supplies. They have been at the forefront of innovative air cooling and water cooling solutions for the enthusiast overclockers for sometime. The Ruby Orb is aftermarket processor cooler designed to support most of the existing sockets including the LGA775, 939, and the AM2.

The Ruby Orb utilizes a radial dissipation design that is unique in the cooling industry. The number of cooling fins multiply as they extend from the center of the Ruby Orb to reduce backpressure on the fan, allowing faster heat dissipation. The y-split fin design allows the Ruby Orb to maximize its cooling fins with up to 140 fins at the end to extend the cooling surface and allow smooth airflow.

Features

The cooler is based on a patented radian crotched fin design which provides superior airflow. This allows the use of a silent 120mm fan with a red LED for a bit of show. It runs at a whisper quiet 17dBA and produces up to 77CFM of airflow making it ideally suited for high performance systems that require low noise operation.

Unlike its predecessor, the Blue Orb, this new cooler is made entirely of alluminium which allows for some weight reduction. Did we mention the Ruby Orb has killer looks! This is the best CPU cooler we have ever seen and if you case has a windows, you'll be in for a real eye candy treat at night.

The contact surface finish is a little rough and we would have liked to see a mirror finish for improved thermal performance. While a good thermal paste like Artic Silver will take care of the imperfections, this is one area that Thermaltake could improve on for ultimate perfection.

Installation

tt-ro-4

Installing this cooler on our Asus P5B Delux socket LGA 775 motherboard was trouble free. Some users might need to remove the motherboard for proper access as make no mistake - this cooler is quite big! The heatsink might also block access to the memory slot nearest to the socket on some motherboards. You can check full compatability over at Thermaltakes website.

The heatsink didn't interfere with any capacitors surrounding the socket despite it's size and the fan allowed air to blow downwards over the surrounding area assisting motherboard temperatures.
