| Thermaltake Ruby Orb Review |

Page 2 of 2 In The Labs![]() When it comes down to the ultimate test, the Ruby Orb holds it's own but might not be a good choice for extreme overclockers. The heatsink is a big improvement over stock coolers and will cool down any of the top of the range processors currently available on the market. Considering it only produces 17dBA of sound, this is quite a remarkable feat and perfect for fans of silent systems. We tested this fan in our box running on a Pentium 2.67GHz Core 2 DUO processor against a stock Intel cooler. The Ruby Orb managed to cool down the CPU by as much as 5 to 7 degrees centigrade under both Idle and Load conditions when compared to the stock Intel retail cooler. Temperatures hovered in the low fifties under heavy load in our wavemaster case. It also produced considerably less noise than the stock cooler and really improved the working enviroment. A very welcome result indeed. ![]() ConclusionWell, the Ruby Orb looks great and performs well. In fact, the performance is good enough to cool down all current processors to working temperatures. Factor in the virtually silent running, universal support, superior airflow around the heatsink and this is a sweet cooler and highly recommended for users who demand quiet working environments. If you are into overclocking, the Ruby Orb doesn't provide much headroom but perhaps it was never designed with this in mind.Considering the cost, this is one great upgrade for the majority of users who require better cooling performance with near silent running. If you're still stuck on stock, you could do a lot worse than treat your processor to a Ruby Orb.
