You could go into PC world without having to worry about compact flash, microSD, SD, MS or the bewildering array of memory formats that are required for cameras, phones, mp3 players and other such lifestyle gadgets. Well the good news is clever manufacturers like A-DATA have heard your plight and come up with a brillant solution. We recently looked at the excellent OCZ Dual memory card that offered USB and SD compatability in one handy package. Just when we thought things couldn't get much better, A-DATA sent us their 2GB microSD Trio 3 in 1 multifunction card adapter that's guaranteed to make your digital life even easier.
The microSD supports the popular Secure Digital memory format which is ideal for digital cameras, handhelds, portable consoles and such devices along with the convenience of USB support - you can throw away those messy USB cables and plugin card readers now. You can use it directly as a USB reader making it an ideal way to save and transfer files across computers or as a bridge between your digital devices. The flexibility is great. The real genius comes with the addition of a clever microSD flash card making it an ideal companion for many of today's mobile phones. If you are a current mobile phone user you'll probably already have a model with built in camera and mp3 player. Functionality sometimes comes at the price of performance but we are happy to report the microSD Trio as a solid performer. Against a sample of SD cards and USB pen drives, the microSD Trio held it's own in Sisoft Sandra tests and just surpassed our previous champ from OCZ.
The Bottom LineA-Data have impressed us in the past with their range of memory products and the microSD Trio multifunction memory card is another gem from the far east. The ability to quickly swap between SD and microSD memory formats is a real joy for digital lifestyle junkies with lots of gadgets and the USB plug and play is the icing on the cake. A range of flavours are available right up to 2GB which is big enough for the current crop of mega pixel cameras.
