The new OCZ PC2-8000 Titanium Alpha modules feature exclusive, multicolored XTC (Xtreme Thermal Convection) heatspreaders implementing an innovative Titanium deposition coating process that is resistant to scratches. In english this means, each Titanium Alpha module has its own unique color scheme and displays interchanging shades depending on the lighting and angle of the heatspreader. Think Max Power cars for memory. They are probably the best look heatspreaders on the market!
According to OCZ, the XTC heatspreaders aren't just for fancy looks. They are specially designed to keep the temperatures down by promoting airflow by means of micro-convection through the dead air space found in more conventional heatspreader designs. Now you know what the honeycomb holes do and you thought they were just to look sporty. Each module or pair of modules are hand tested by OCZ to guarantee rock solid performance and stability. Only one machine is good enough to give these modules a proper workout at MaXit HQ. Bring out the monsta. Danger Den watercooling, 850w psu, Asus P5B Delux and a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor capable of running at 3.7GHz.
The Titanium modules blew us away with there performance and overclockability. At SPD timings of 4-4-4-15 the modules were able to hit 1067MHz at 2.3 volts but the real fun began when we pumped the volts up to 2.4 and loosened the timings to 5-5-5-15. An incredible 1203MHz was reached with the Core 2 Duo cooking at 3.62GHz. Due to the way the memory strap works on the Asus P5B Delux on speeds above 400MHz FSB a reduction in performance was actually noted on the memory benchmarks. For this reason, we backed off to 400MHz FSB and 1198MHz for the memory. Have a look at Sandra tipping the 8000kb/s scale. 
Just about as good as it gets. The Titanium VX2 modules seemed so happy to overclock. A lot of DDR2 we have tested seems so picky in Core 2 Duo systems. Alter the timings, muck around with the dividers and all hell breaks loose. We are happy to report the OCZ modules were the most stable and Core 2 Duo friendly DDR2 we have had the pleasure of testing. In The Labs (continued)
